36"x60" Acrylic on Canvas. ©2008 This painting depicts the 24 letters of the Greek alphabet in the shape of columns that are arranged to form a capital "G." The columns represent the evolution of Greek architectural styles starting from the early Minoan style, progressing towards the Ionic, the Doric and finally the Corinthian style. This painting is dedicated to the great Greek architects, philosophers and writers who created exemplary pieces of work which supported and educated wide populations for many following centuries.
History: Greek is an Indo-European language native to the southern Balkan peninsula. It has the longest documented history of any Indo-European language, spanning 34 centuries of written records. In its ancient form, it is the language of classical Ancient Greek literature and the New Testament of the Christian Bible. In its modern form, it is the official language of Greece and Cyprus, and spoken by a total of approximately 20 million people, including minority and emigrant communities in numerous parts of the world.
