Images from family archives projected onto a caribou hide.
For generations our family, our village, the people of Labrador, have fed themselves off the Big Land and its animals. The caribou continues to feed our people and hopefully our children and their children. This caribou hide was a gift to me from my uncle. It is a caribou he killed over 30 years ago in the Mealy Mountains of Labrador. He explained to me how to soak and stretch it. I was undecided how to introduce it into the collection and was not comfortable with working directly onto the skin. It has travelled great distances, both alive and dead. I thought it best to treat it as a vehicle. It now reflects images of the past, present and eventually the future. Change over the generations, change yet to come.
