My reason for this picture can be attributed to my interest in the architecture of Edinburgh, modern and past. I have used several references for my work, colours and brickwork or taken from my own observations used in conjunction with my own photographs and video’s. Ballantynes Close, Edinburgh is painted how I would have imagined it to look in the early eighteen hundreds. Rough architectural design with no though spared for ‘blending’ the looks of the adjacent building. I hope I’ve captured the atmosphere of the period by showing the muddy path leading from the main road into the close with its patchwork paving stones, windows and doors of varying size and design. The winding step which appear to be constructed without care, when in fact a lot of internal and external steps were built uneven to make them difficult to accent and decent by unwanted guest in the dead of night
