My Favorite Memories / 6th Grade - some happy moments in my life. I travelled all the way back to 6th garde. My first boy-girl party, playing spin the Bottle. My two biggest crushes and my heart was torn in two. I still can remember 6th grade love. Mr. Chess is pitching me a perfect ball, and I had perfect hits every time.
That’s Patty McDonald with her ducks. She was the only girl I knew who went to Catholic School and got to wear that adorable little kit. I was so envious, except when I thought about the nuns and the ruler rumors. Behind the red seats are me and Marty Bernstein, my first date. We saw a horror movie, crouched behind our seats, we were so scared. He bought me a big box of candy, mixed liquorice that I hated. It was so much fun. Bottom center is Harry at the Oak Park Skating Rink; I lived across the street. Harry would skate with all the girls and he pushed us backwards and twirled us around and did all kinds of special things. I was a star. That’s me in the yellow dress kissing my Grandmother; she died when I was in the 6th grade. The people who aren’t colored have passed on. Aunt Helen is in the tub. She had the biggest boobies I ever saw. She throw them over their shoulder to wash and I laughed. I loved her too. Uncle Lou is above the tub, wearing his prayer shawl. The table is set for Passover and Uncle Lou loved hiding the matzo. When Aunt Helen died, he died too. The people on top are Uncle Bill and aunt Sarah. Aunt Helen, Aunt Sarah and Grandma were sisters and lived together. Now they live somewhere else. Lastly, next to harry and me skating is Howdy Doody on my lap. He’s a mannequin who lived at the Toy store down the block from grandma’s linen shop. I always wanted to be a ventriloquist. I guess this is why. Memories are something we all have and a few good ones are all I need.
