My Mother Used To Tell Me My Mother would tell me how her Mom bought her everything and she never appreciated it. She told me if I worked for the things I wanted this would increase my appreciation. So at an early age I got my first job counting the returned bottles at Dexter Davison Supermarket. To save money I even read my favorite Nancy Drew Mysteries in the store and then left. At 16 I bought my first car. My Mother turned over the keys to her used red Chevy Nova. She said I had to pay more because I knew where she lived? I saved and saved and it was mine. My girlfriends and I drove out to Metropolitan beach or Cass Lake, laughing and smoking as teenage girls do. We skipped school and decided to go have some fun in the sun. When we returned to the car it was on fire. A cigarette had flown into the back window causing the blaze. We had to sit on milk crates and burlap bags on the way home and for the life of my new car. In any case do take heed and roll up the windows if you smoke. I will say no more. By the way, my Mother never said a word either
