This is one of a series of photographs from a Zuni sandstone formation in western New Mexico, dating to the Cretaceous (approx. 63-138 Ma).

The Pueblo people (and the Mayans) say that we are currently in the 4th world. The third world was, they say, destroyed in a flood. With the end of each world, the next is entered by the people through a small hole - an Emergence. (Each kiva has a sipapu in its floor.)

Some say (not the least, the Mayans) that the time of emergence into the 5th world is upon us. Eroded sandstone & lichens.
