Deductive Essay
von   Robert Palmer

A deductive essay is one of the many types of essays students usually stress over. However, a deductive essay is really just like any other essay. If you keep these tips in mind, beginning to write a deductive essay will be easier then ever! Make sure you have a solid beginning. Since a deductive essay deals with creating a conclusion from the information that has presented in the beginning, make sure your essay thesis statement is strong. Use your words carefully! Using the correct terminology is important and should be used to make an impact on the reader. Not only is leaving an impact important, but using the correct words is too. Have a clear and strong premise. Deductive essays use fact or a belief as the base of the essay to draw a conclusion, so make sure your premise (circumstances or clues) are solid and accurate. Ensure your deductive essay is well researched and you include enough supporting evidence to support the premise concisely. Make sure your conclusion ties together all the information you presented and shows support for the premise. Also, keep in mind that when writing a deductive essay, that there are different argument styles that can be used when writing the essay. Knowing the most common argument styles will help to write a better deductive essay. The most commonly used argument styles are: Categorical Arguments – This type of argument has various items and there are commonly used words in a categorical argument, such as all, none and some. Propositional Arguments – This type of argument manages the sentences that the argument is being used in. Commonly used words are if, or and and. A deductive essay should include all the basic information, the thesis and then the arguments that support the thesis. There should be at least three paragraphs that support the introduction paragraph that the thesis is in as well as the conclusion paragraph. Each paragraph should describe and support and the premise or thesis. Make sure your readers attention is not diverted from the thesis of the essay. The attention of the reader needs to be held by paying close attention to the sentence structure, as well as the grammar within the essay. Keep in mind that a deductive essay is evaluating your analytical skills, as well as your use of language and expression. Furthermore, although deductive essays are not difficult to write, they still require the same amount of attention to detail and effort as any other essay you may write.
