Sergei Brushko Belarusian photographer (1958-2000). Known particularly for his documentary photography work in the 1990s, utilizing the Cartier-Bressonian style of street photography. Worked as a reporter for "Chyrvonaya Zmiena" and "Narodnaya Gazieta" daily newspapers. Photography exhibited in Belarus, Germany, Switzerland.

After the world’s worst nuclear accident at the Ukrainian plant of Chernobyl in 1986, photographer Sergei Brushko made a series of visits to the exclusion zone in neighbouring Belarus.Initially he was assigned to follow a number of villagers who were returning to their homes within the zone to visit the graves of their ancestors. However he soon began to photograph many other aspects within the zone, here capturing an abandoned house on fire.The Belarussian's work documented both life in the zone for the residents who remained until finally being moved out in the 1990,the clean-up operation within the zone,and the medical treatment given to those affected by the accident.Brushko was a very shy person, to the point of refusing to attend the 1999 exhibition of his works in Belarus, entitled The Hope Dies Last. Sergei Brushko died in 2000.
