I have always been a dreamer, at a young age I delved into picture books with glee, books inspired me to dream of wonderful places and I think that’s where my passion for creating work with themes of celebration and childhood wonderment came from. I studied in Canberra at the Academy of Interactive Entertainment, then decided to take to a tropical and tree-dominated sojourn to far north Queensland. The move gave me further inspiration – rainforests, tropical colours and its unique nature, while still having access to the urban sprawl of cities and all those secret spaces within them. My interest in sustainable living and the environment has giving me a lot fuel for themes in my work. I’m often inspired by daydreams that then lead to sketches on a computer. I build up images by painting directly into the computer using a graphics tablet. Painting on a digital canvas gives me an array of tools and infinite possibilities. I look forward to a time where technology becomes seamless with my art, when I can interact with a computer in a way that makes it almost like traditional media, but with all the tools and enhancements of digital media. In the not too distant future I will be able to strap on a pair on VR glasses and have a totally immersive art experience. I like to play with the idea of nature and industrial cities – despite human beings’ desire to try to control environments, nature continues to fight back and re-invent itself into our environments. Places like botanic gardens, hidden gardens in cities, rooftop jungles and forgotten places where were nature lives undisturbed inspire me. I’m addicted to creating art, especially experimenting with digital media. The emotions and discovery that people experience from the works drives me to keep imagining and creating. I like creating places that other people can call home. I want to ignite thoughts of childhood and inspire the viewer to be inspired.
