Personal Statement
For me, being an artist presents the opportunity to express what I don't know and is the means by which to find some grounding or belief outside of my own ego. I paint and draw predominantly with oils and pastels, although I am open to a variety of media. I am working on several themed projects at the moment, investigating the human
body, consciousness, behaviour and sexuality. I also enjoy landscapes and how we interpret space and perspective in relation to ourselves.
Whilst waiting for paint to dry, I like to research the history, theory and contextual elements of art and creativity. I enjoy exploring how and why we communicate visually and strive to understand what is meant by the “human spirit” and “consciousness” in Art. Reading into philosophical and psychological enquiries, I relate the research to my Art with an Existentialist approach, investigating what it is to be “Me”; my relationship to,
and place in, the world
