David Owen Dudley
Born and lived in Mottram Hall Prestbury Cheshire, my upbringing being divided between England and Southern Africa, I now live and work at my family home in the beautiful Ribble Valley. My paintings illustrate my fascination with architectural design and social observations/living.
Never without a sketchbook I’m constantly drawing, sometimes the drawings are left as drawn and other times they are develop into paintings. My main source of influence is architecture and everything around me; I’m fascinated by the architectural landscape offered by many town, villages and cities around the world, both modern and ‘old world’. I favour mixing oils directly on the canvas painting in the impasto style, usually so that the brush or painting-knife strokes are visible. I also consider the works of Van Gogh, Rolf Harris, John Myatt and the many talented artists who display work as having a strong affect on my work.
Usually a Realism artist in oils I have recently, with encouragement from friends, started to experiment with watercolours. Washes are my favoured style in Watercolours; I’m combining non-waterproof black Winsor & Newton ink with the wash giving added realism in this style of painting.
