Aine Scannell
I am originally from Cork, on the southern coast of Ireland though I have lived the greater part of my life in London. Since 2007, I live in Scotland..
Since a small girl, I possessed a deep love and belief almost. in the ‘magic’ inherent in the act of creation.
I remember playing with lines of swept up dust in the back yard, of my childhood home and how much I loved the sandpit on my first day at school aged 3.
Coming into touch with printmaking practice whilst on my Masters Fine art course (Painting) in Barcelona, introduced me to a branch of fine art where I experienced a deeply felt perception, that there were no rules and a boundless field, in which it was possible to play with materials and meanings.
I create works which look at the human condition exploring e.g., identity, displacement, loss, oppression and childhood amongst many themes. Animals and the human form are an important feature in my work.
