Visual Intrpolations
There is a tension between planning and improvisation in painting. But I think much of the richness in the work comes precisely because an apparent opposites are never easily resolved and you let go a control factor. A tendency to stay fully in charge of the painting doesn't allow an element of discovery, a sense of surprise is lost. Allowing yourself a freedom from that as well as being attentive toward what a painting itself might suggest you is always the key element in the process. It is also a way to avoid the dreaded cliche.
This approach to painting somtimes rewards you with/ results in creating something interpretively complex, in which is not easy to gauge what is right and what is wrong, in which meaning and intention may in fact be tentative, provisional, or ultimately undeterminable.
